Our Canberra clinic has a new home and a new name: Animal Emergency Service Canberra. Here’s what that means for you and your pet.

When your pet is unwell in the middle of the night, you need to know exactly where to go, and that when you get there, your pet will be in good hands. That’s the only thing that matters, and it hasn’t changed.

What’s new is the location and the name. From 29 April 2026, Canberra Veterinary Emergency Service (CVES) is now Animal Emergency Service (AES) Canberra, operating from a new location at 2 Barton Highway, Lyneham. The new name brings the Canberra clinic in line with our hospitals across the country, same team, same standard of care, now under one consistent name.

A hospital that works harder for your pet

The move to Lyneham puts the team in a space purpose-suited to pet emergency and critical care. The layout supports faster triage, smoother patient flow, and a better environment for managing complex and critical cases, the kinds of situations where every minute counts.

For you as a pet owner, this translates directly into a greater capacity to take on urgent cases, and a clinical environment designed around the demands of emergency medicine rather than adapted to fit them.

The demand for after-hours vets in Canberra continues to grow, and the community deserves reliable access to high-quality emergency services, now and into the future. This move is part of a commitment to being there when you need it most.

You’re welcome to stay with your pet

Animal Emergency Service Canberra is an Open Hospital, which means that wherever it’s safe and appropriate to do so, you’re welcome to be present while your pet receives treatment. You’ll receive information in real time, be involved in treatment decisions as they unfold, and bring the comfort of your presence to your pet when they need it most.

Keeping you close isn’t just good for your peace of mind; it’s good for your pet’s recovery, too.

A better environment for the team caring for your pet

Great care starts with a team that can do their best work. The new location provides the emergency vet and nursing team with a more functional, better-designed working environment, one that supports collaboration, reduces unnecessary pressure, and helps the team focus on what they do best: caring for your pet.

A well-supported team is a more effective team, and that matters most during the high-pressure moments that define pet emergency medicine.

A calm, supported patient in good hands, that’s what every visit to AES Canberra looks like.

Everything that matters stays exactly the same

Here’s what isn’t changing:

  • The same experienced emergency and critical care team: the clinicians and nurses your pet has seen before are still here
  • Emergency-only service, available 24 hours on weekends, 24 hours on public holidays, and every night from 6pm to 8am
  • Close collaboration with your regular vet, so your pet’s care is continuous and well-coordinated from first visit to follow-up
  • Our phone number: 02 6225 7257 – remains unchanged

We’ll see you in Lyneham

Animal Emergency Service Canberra is proud to be growing its presence in the community with a hospital that reflects the standard of care this region deserves. Whether this is your first time through the doors or you’ve relied on the team before, thank you for trusting us with your pet’s care.

We hope you never need us in a hurry. But when you do, the team will be ready.
